All Inspections

6 September 2012

During a routine inspection

This was a scheduled inspection that we had brought forward owing to concerns that had been raised with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) about care delivery.

The inspection was carried out to check whether improvements identified at our last inspection in February 2012 had been sustained and to ensure that people using the service were safe and fully cared for.

During our inspection we went on to look at how staff were recruited and selected and how the providers met their aims and objectives.

The people who we met with and whose care we examined in detail were frail, and some were suffering from dementia which meant it was difficult for us to gain people's views on the care they received.

We observed the care and support offered to people. We saw that staff were kind when dealing with people and provided supervision and support as needed.

However, we found that care planning and aspects of care provision did not demonstrate that people who used the service received suitable planned and effective care. People's needs were not being consistently met, and risk factors were not assessed.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with people living at the home, relatives of people living at the home and a district nurse manager. People told us that the care was good, that staff offered care to people in a way that protected them from harm and that they were generally pleased with the care offered at Roundstone.

During a routine inspection

People told us that if they had any concerns they would tell the owner. All of the people told us that the staff were always respectful and very good at their job. They also said that they can plan their own daily routine. People said they enjoyed living at Roundstones as it allowed them to remain in their town. This means they have not lost contact with friends and can still access places they like to visit.
