All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People told us about what it was like to live at the home and how they felt they were cared for by the staff. They told us 'The home is very nice and I am very well cared for' and 'I receive very good care and the staff are lovely'.

People that we spoke with during our visit told us "Staffing is good here' and 'We have the same regular staff team, all are very friendly'.

We spoke with the provider who told us 'All staff have been made aware of how to respond to peoples complaints, comments and complaints would be taken seriously'.

We looked at other records to ensure that people's safety was being maintained. These included cleaning schedules, compliments/complaints log, fire log, and health and safety audits. These records were up to date and in order.

We spoke with two staff members who confirmed they had received supervision. Staff told us "I had supervision recently with my supervisor' and 'I have regular supervision to discuss my performance'.

Staff were knowledgeable about the safeguarding adults procedure and told us they had read the policy and confirmed the actions they would take if they suspected abuse and who they should report concerns to.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found the provider had completed an overview of staff training which included detail of where staff had been updated and outstanding training. The overview clearly described what mandatory training consisted of.

We did not involve the people living in the home at the time of our follow up visit. We spent our time with the manager and spoke with staff.

We spoke with one staff member who told us about recent training they had received in safeguarding adults. They told us how this training had increased their knowledge and had been 'very beneficial'.

We saw minutes of daily handovers where staff had discussed the needs of people living in the home and staff training.

During a routine inspection

People confirmed that staff listened to them and acted appropriately to their requests. One person said 'If I need the doctor I am encouraged to visit the local surgery' and 'I'm encouraged to maintain my independence, staff are great here'.

Staff had not received appropriate professional development. We spoke to the manager regarding training at the home we found of the eight staff in the team, only one person had attended safeguarding adults training, staff also had not had infection control training, DoLs (Deprivation of Liberty) and Mental Capacity Act training. We were told that all staff had completed a NVQ in care.

We found when looking at the three care plans that they did not contain a comprehensive assessments of people's needs and did not contain sufficient information in order to ensure people's individual needs were met. The care plans we looked at did not have any risk assessments in place for people. Steps were not taken to ensure each person was protected against the risks of receiving care and treatment.
