During a routine inspection

Two inspectors visited the service on 1 May 2012 and spoke with one of the providers of the service , staff working at the home, a visiting relative and with people who used the service. We visited the service again on 24 May 2012 to talk to the Registered Individual for the service in the absence of a permanent manager for the home.

During our two visits to the home, people living at Angel Lodge told us that staff were kind and supportive. They said that they enjoyed the services provided at the home, such as the activities and the quality of the food as well as the environment. Some people were not able to clearly express their views due to having dementia. However, we noted that staff had good skills for communicating with people, offering them stimulation to encourage them to engage in various aspects of daily living.

People who were able to communicate with us, told us that, "The staff are perfect.' One person said, 'They give me my medication on time."

Another person said, "They are lovely, I have everything, I am happy here."

Relatives spoken to said," "I am happy with Angel Lodge. My loved one is talking more now, remembers things, has put on weight and he is happy there. "

Another relative said, " They have looked after my loved one very well, very caring."

During a routine inspection

People living at Angel Lodge told us that staff were kind and supportive. They said that they enjoyed the services provided at the home, such as the activities and the quality of the food as well as the environment. Some people were not able to clearly express their views due to having dementia. We therefore undertook a short observational framework for inspection (SOFI) for people with dementia. This demonstrated that staff had good skills for communicating with people, offering them stimulation to encourage them to engage in various aspects of daily living.

People who were able to communicate with us, told us that, "This is very clean, they keep it scrupulously clean.'

'This is proper care. If you are not well, they see to it.'

'There is nothing that they (staff) won't do for you, they give all the detail.'

People also told us that they had manicures and pedicures as well as taking part in painting and drawing activities.

Relatives spoken to said, 'I think he is well looked after here, he enjoys the meals, he is happy here.'

Another relative said, 'Staff smile, get involved, they care, they communicate with people. They are very good.'
