During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person using the service. We found the person was able to make informed decisions about their care and support. This person told us 'I like it here, the staff help me.' We also spoke with two members of staff.

We found the person using the service experienced care and support that met their needs and protected their rights. We found their care needs had been assessed. Care and support was delivered in a way that met their needs and ensured their safety and welfare.

The person using the service was protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines. We found the provider had robust systems in place relating to the management of medicines.

Staff were supported in their work and were confident that they were able to provide the care required.

We found systems were in place to regularly obtain the person's views about the care and service they receive. We found the provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of the person using the service.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with the one person using the service and they told us they were supported to make choices and maintain their independence as much as they were able. They told us they were able to visit the shop by themselves and were supported to carry out activities they enjoyed such as table tennis and baking. They told us they were able to make decisions about what they wanted to do during the day and about how their care was provided. They also told us they were planning a holiday with staff and had chosen the destination.

We found the care plan was detailed and thorough and provided clear guidance to staff about how the person's care and support should be delivered. The person's care was planned and delivered in a way that ensured their safety and welfare and all records we looked at were well maintained, up to date and regularly reviewed.

Staff were aware of the appropriate reporting processes should an allegation of abuse be raised, ensuring people were protected at all times.

We found there was limited evidence that the manager and provider were assessing and monitoring the quality of the service provided to ensure people were protected from the risk of inappropriate or unsafe care.
