During an inspection in response to concerns

We carried out this responsive review because the Commission had received some information from a credible source that alleged that people who use the service were

' being made to get up very early

' Staff were not properly trained in moving and handling techniques

' Call bells were left out of reach so people were unable to use them

' Inappropriate restraint techniques were being used

' Medication dosage was altered without consultation with a doctor

We did this review using our power to seize documents that we may use as evidence if we need to take any further action if the home does not do what we

ask of them. This is in relation to making sure that the home operates properly and that people are looked after and cared for safely.

A high proportion of people, using the service, were unable to express their views on the care and support that they were receiving. This was due to communication difficulties or their general medical condition. However, in order to determine how care and support was carried out, we spoke with staff and observed their practices talked with visitors to the home and other healthcare professionals about their experiences at the home.

The people who use the service and could express their views told us they were satisfied with the care and support they receive. One person said 'things are okay here, I am looked after, I get what I need'. During the site visit relatives said they had been 'more than satisfied' with the care of their relative. One visitor said, 'I visit regularly, the staff are friendly, and will always pass the time of day with you. My mother is always clean and tidy. If she isn't very well they let me know, and keep me informed every step of the way.'
