All Inspections

21 February 2014

During a routine inspection

We saw that before people received treatment and care they were asked for their consent. People were asked to sign a consent to operation form following a full explanation by the consultant about the procedure to be undertaken and the choices available to them.

We were told that all prospective patients visited the unit for a pre medical assessment to ensure they were fit to undergo surgery. People's relevant medical conditions had been recorded including any allergies.

People were protected from the risk of infection because effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us that the care they received was "excellent".

They told us that they had been kept informed at each stage of their procedure and felt very satisfied with the outcome of their treatment.

We saw that there were satisfactory procedures in place that safeguarded people from the risk of infection.

There were systems in place that monitored and evaluated the quality of the service provided.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to 4 patients. All were pleased with the quality of care. They said the risks and benefits had been explained thoroughly and in lay terms. Post operative care had been excellent. Where there were problems, such as infection, the surgeons were readily available to prescribe remedies.
