During a routine inspection

People spoke with us about the care they received in The Lodge. One person said, 'I'm looked after very well. They do as well as they can. We are all looked after very well.' Another person told us, 'I do my own activities and I go on the bus. I do jig saw puzzles and write in books. Sometimes I do a lot of writing in my books. I've got about three dolls. I've got a bus pass. I'm going on the train to the seaside next week. There's nothing I would want to do differently.'

Relatives told us they felt people who used the service were respected and their dignity was maintained. One relative told us, 'They are good. It's small and more intimate. He never says, 'I'm coming home.' Another relative said, 'This was recommended to me. I have no problems with the care at all. I like it because it is small.' Another relative told us, 'This seemed homely which was what we really wanted. He needs turning every two hours and that happens.' Another relative said, 'The staff are brilliant with him and persevere. We gave our consent to the care plan. I do attend a review of my husband's care which is also attended by a healthcare professional.'

People who used the service told us they felt there were enough staff at The Lodge. One person said, 'I think there are enough staff. I think very well of the staff.' A relative we spoke with said, 'If it wasn't for the staff I wouldn't have kept him here. There are enough staff for my relative's needs.' Another relative told us, 'The care workers that work here are brilliant.'

People we spoke with explained how their concerns were acted on. One person told us, 'I attend the resident meeting. They listen to us. I would complain to the manager.' Another person said, 'My relative attends the resident meeting on my behalf. I'd tell the staff if I had a complaint.' A relative we spoke with said, 'I go to every resident and relatives meeting, which are held every month and you can say what you think. We have pushed the issue about doing it up. The new manager is approachable. The owner's coming to the meetings. I have not completed a questionnaire.'
