During a routine inspection

When we arrived at the service the front door was opened by someone who lived at Narborough Lodge. We spoke with three of the six people who use the service who were at home on the day of our inspection. We asked people for their views about the service they received and asked them how decisions were made. People we spoke with told us they made decisions about their daily lives, which included menu planning, activities and holidays by speaking with staff on a daily basis and by attending planned meetings involving people who live at the home.

Our observations showed that people living at the service considered it to be their home and were involved in the day to day running. One person living at the home answered the front door when the postman rang the bell and took the post from the postman, which included signing for a recorded delivery item. We heard two people talking about the meal for the evening, with one person going to the local shop to buy additional ingredients. One person told us they were involved in interviewing prospective members of staff.

During a routine inspection

When we arrived the door was opened by someone who lived at Narborough Lodge, they let us in and told us that we needed to 'sign in'. We were later on given a tour of the home by someone else who lived at the home.

We asked people how they were involved in the day to day running of the home. People told us, 'I help do the food shopping on a Friday we go to ASDA as it's our local.' 'We have meetings every eight weeks and we talk about house rules, fire evacuation, holidays, trips and Christmas.'

We asked people about their lives and their views of the home and how they spent their time. They told us, 'I also have a laptop and I'm on 'facebook' so I can talk to my family and friends.' 'I like it here, the staff are friendly.' 'I wash up and dry up and I clean my room.'

People at Narborough Lodge made decisions about their daily lives and were involved in the development of their care plans and took an active part in their health and welfare.
