During an inspection in response to concerns

Most people living at Claremont have some level of cognitive impairment and therefore are not always able to directly express their thoughts and comments to us. As people cannot generally tell us about their experience of the home we relied largely on the activity we saw in the home and on the information given to us by the staff, along with visiting professionals who were also in the home on both days.

We saw many smiles and expressions of comfort from people; we also saw some staff interacting with people in a warm and friendly manner. However the long term conditions nurse review team, the funded nursing and continuing healthcare team and the mental health team stated they had serious concerns about the care of eleven service users at the home during their visits in December 2010. The home was notified of these serious concerns by the above professional teams in December 2010. The local authority safeguarding strategy meeting on 14 January 2011 recognised continuing concerns regarding all 28 people living in the home.
