All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with both of the people using the service and one member of staff. We also talked with one care worker from an agency responsible for providing supervision in the community for one person for three days each week. There were two people living at the service.

People confirmed they were being well cared for at the home and staff provided them with the support they needed to maintain their independence. People said they were able to make choices, for example with meals and with activities and told us they attended day centres and went on outings with a care worker. Staff communicated effectively with people and were polite and professional in their manner.

Medicines were being managed and people were receiving their medicines as prescribed.

The home was being maintained and people had been involved in choosing the colour scheme and furnishings for their rooms.

Staff had received training and demonstrated an understanding of people's individual needs and how to meet these effectively.

People said they would speak with the staff if they were worried about anything and there was a complaints procedure in place.

4 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with both of the people using the service and three staff.

People told us they were happy living at the home and were able to make choices about the way they wanted to spend their days. Care plans showed us that people had been consulted about their care wishes and these had been recorded so they could be respected. Staff treated people in a courteous and friendly manner and listened to what people had to say.

Care plans provided a comprehensive picture of each person, their needs and wishes and how these were to be met. Activity programmes were in place and people attended day centres and other activities outside the home which promoted their independence.

People said they felt safe at the home and if they had any concerns they would speak with the deputy manager. Staff had received training in safeguarding and understood the procedure to follow if an allegation of abuse was made.

The home was appropriately staffed with people who had relevant experience and qualifications to ensure the needs of the people were met. People were encouraged to express their views so positive changes to the service could be made. The views of others visiting the service were sought to identify the quality of care being given and encourage people to express their views about the service.

There was no-one present when we arrived at the home so we contacted the provider and arranged to meet the deputy manager at the service after one hour.
