Other evidence

Our inspection report dated March 2012 found equipment was in use with people that had not been appropriately assessed for.

During our visit on 25 June 2012 the provider informed us of the actions they had taken to protect people from unsafe or unsuitable equipment. We saw that these actions included the development of risk assessments related to the environment and the fitting of temperature restriction valves to taps accessible to people who use the service. In addition, we saw that a nurse call point had been added to the conservatory area of the home.

The provider informed us that since our last visit they had liaised with local healthcare professionals to ensure that beds, bedrails and their covers in use were appropriate for the people using them. The provider told us that all specialist beds and bedrails were risk assessed, supplied and maintained by local healthcare services.

They told us that the manager of the service had developed a formal assessment process for the use of the nurse call system and other equipment that may enhance individuals’ day to day life. In addition, the provider told us that they were working with the local healthcare occupational therapist to explore equipment available to assist people whilst they are in bed
