People should get safe and appropriate care that meets their needs and supports their rights (outcome 4)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Experience effective, safe and appropriate care, treatment and support that meets their needs and protects their rights.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 12 February 2013, observed how people were being cared for and checked how people were cared for at each stage of their treatment and care. We talked with people who use the service, talked with carers and / or family members, talked with staff and reviewed information we asked the provider to send to us. We reviewed information sent to us by commissioners of services and talked with commissioners of services.

Our judgement

People who used the service experienced effective, safe and appropriate care.

Reasons for our judgement

People told us that they enjoyed living in the home. Comments included "this is a lovely home" "the staff are kindness itself" "I am so pleased that I found this place, it is a happy, friendly home and I am extremely happy here" and "we have activities and interests all the time. Look at today, we have made roses and I think we are having a quiz."

We looked at four updated care files and noted they were written in a person centred manner and were very comprehensive. The care files included risk assessment, care reviews and records of interventions from other professionals who may have been involved with people's social or health care needs. Records showed that people's activities and interests were recorded and staff had arranged activities in the home and within the wider community which met all indivuals' needs.
