Overview

Inspection carried out on 12 February 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people who lived in Arlington House and two of their relatives. People told us that they knew all about the home before they went to live there. They said clear information about the staff and services had been provided prior to admission. People told us that they were able to make choices in their day to day life. For example, what time they went to bed and what they wanted to eat.

People told us that they enjoyed living in the home. Comments included "this is a lovely home" "the staff are kindness itself" "I am so pleased that I found this place, it is a happy, friendly home and I am extremely happy here" and "we have activities and interests all the time. Look at today, we have made roses and I think we are having a quiz."

People told us that they felt safe living at Arlington House. Relatives of people told us that they felt the home was a safe and secure environment in which staff looked after people "properly."

The people we talked with spoke highly of the care staff; they reported that they provided good care and had the right skills. Comments included "staff are nice and kind", "staff know what they are doing and do it well" and "they are a nice bunch of people who really care about us all."
