People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider, carried out a visit on 07/02/2012, observed how people were being cared for, looked at records of people who use services, talked to staff and talked to people who use services.

Our judgement

The people who live at Southmoor Lodge were safe and their health and welfare needs were met by staff who were fit to do the job.

User experience

We did not speak to anyone who lived at Southmoor Lodge about staff recruitment, and therefore we have based our judgements on other evidence.

Other evidence

We saw six staff files, from a range of different staff grades at the care home. Each file contained the necessary documentation to demonstrate that staff had been recruited in a safe and appropriate manner. Documents included Criminal Records Bureau checks, application forms, and two written references. We spoke with three members of staff about their recruitment and they told us that they had been through a formal interview process and that they had supplied both references and had a Criminal Records Bureau check.
