During a routine inspection

We received positive views and experiences from people we spoke with. Comments included 'I can honestly say I haven't a bad thing to say', 'It was the best thing that ever happened to me when my daughters found this lovely home for me to live in' and 'Everyone is so kind and the managers go out of their way to make sure you are happy'.

We also looked at written comments received in the home's survey for 2013. They included 'I don't think I could have found a better place, the staff are brilliant', 'Thank you for making us all feel so welcome when we visit' and 'There is a warm and homely atmosphere the moment you walk into the home'.

The manager was available throughout the day and they were knowledgeable about the people in their care, the policies, procedures and systems in place to help ensure the continued smooth running of the home.

People experienced effective, appropriate care and support that met their needs. They were supported to receive and maintain adequate nutrition and hydration and received nutritionally balanced food and drink that supported their health. People lived in safe, accessible surroundings that promoted their wellbeing and they benefited from equipment that was comfortable and met their needs. People's comments and complaints were listed to and acted on effectively.

20 February 2013

During a routine inspection

There was a happy, relaxed atmosphere in the home. We spent some time in the company of people living in the home and spoke with them individually. We saw that staff interacted in a caring way and people responded to this. We spoke with seven people who lived at the home and five members of staff.

People we spoke with were very happy. They understood that we wanted to gain their views about their experiences living in the home. Comments included, 'I am very settled and I would like to stay here permanently', 'I can't fault the staff and the care they provide' and 'It's very homely despite being so big. I enjoy sitting here in the conservatory with the company of other people'.

Staff were very positive about working in the home and said they were 'proud' to be there. They told us that there had been good improvements made in the last year. This included improved team working, daily routines, effective communication and consistency in management and leadership.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

One person told us that staff were able to help them because they knew how to operate the piece of equipment they now needed to use to get around.

Another person told us that they have made a comment at the residents' meeting, now held on a monthly basis and their comment had been listened to and it had resulted in some changes being made to the menus.

People told us that staff are available when they require help.

The people we spoke to told us that they had no complaints with the service being provided to them.
