People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 22 February 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with carers and / or family members. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

The service was noted to have appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures in place for staff to access.

Records showed that within the preceding 12 months there had been no safeguarding concerns or alerts raised either by the domiciliary care service or by the Local Authority.

We spoke with four members of staff. Staff demonstrated a good understanding and awareness of how to respond and raise concerns if there was suspicion of abuse. The provider confirmed that safeguarding of vulnerable adults training for staff was provided at bi-annual and/or three yearly intervals. The staff training records for five members of staff showed that each member of staff had up to date safeguarding of vulnerable adults training.
