During a routine inspection

We saw that people were actively engaged with their individual treatment programme and that they accessed specialist therapies and structured activities. This showed us that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

We saw positive examples of person centred menu choice plans and that the service benefitted from the weekly input of a qualified dietician. This demonstrated to us that people were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.

We saw evidence of close and collaborative working with the community eating disorders service and other health professionals. This showed us that the provider worked in co-operation with others within the wider health economy.

Staff reported that there were good opportunities for training and career development. This demonstrated to us that people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

A clear internal audit programme was in place and evidence was seen of the actions taken in response to any identified concerns. This showed us that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

We saw that people had access to information and support from staff about raising any concerns that they might have. This meant that comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We reviewed three care pathways and saw evidence that demonstrated that specific treatments had been explained to each person. We saw that people had completed their consent to treatment forms and been involved in discussions with their therapist regarding their treatment. This demonstrated to us that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

Individual treatment programmes reviewed during our inspection reflected the assessed need of the person using the service. This showed us that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. We saw that monthly cleanliness audits were carried out and that any identified concerns had been promptly addressed. This demonstrated to us that people were cared for in a clean and hygienic environment.

We saw sufficient staff were available to provide care and specialised treatment to the people using the service. This showed us that there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. The care records reviewed in detail showed us that any identified concerns were appropriately addressed. We saw evidence of positive feedback from people and their families upon discharge from the service. This demonstrated to us that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who were staying in the home. They told us that their needs were met and that they were consulted about the support that they were provided with. People were complimentary about the staff that cared for them and told us that they always treated them with respect and that their privacy was respected. They told us that they had access to a staff member to talk to and to assist them at all times, and that they felt safe living in the home. They also told us that the environment was comfortable and clean and that they were provided with individual and group therapies and daily activities and free time.
