During an inspection in response to concerns

People who used the service and a relative who spoke to us were satisfied with the services provided. They informed us that staff were friendly and they had treated them with respect and dignity. Their views can be summarised by the following comments :

'Yes, I am very satisfied. They treat me well.'

'Staff are friendly and respectful. They run the place well.' (relative)

'No problem. I am well cared for.'

'I can't thank you enough for all you did for my relative.' (relative)

When we discussed care issues, we noted that the registered manager and her staff were knowledgeable regarding the needs of people who use the service and how those needs are to be met. A wide range of activities had been organised to ensure that people who use the service are kept occupied and stimulated.

The required assessments and other care plans were in place and people who use the service indicated that their needs had been met, they had confidence in the staff and staff carried out their duties in a caring and professional manner. The written procedure for the management of pressure sores was not sufficiently comprehensive and there are concerns expressed regarding the night time practice of assisting certain people who have incontinence problems.

The registered manager and her staff had a good understanding of safeguarding issues and action to be taken if they had concerns. People who use the service further informed us that they felt safe in the home.

The premises were clean and tidy. The home had an infection control policy and procedure. Staff had received training in this area and were knowledgeable regarding measures to prevent and control infection.
