During a routine inspection
During our inspection we used the Short Observational Framework for inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of those people who could not talk with us.
On the day of our visit eight people were living at Compton House. We observed how staff interacted with all the people. We used SOFI to carry out an observation of four of the people living at Compton House. We observed that staff interacted and communicated with people in an appropriate and respectful manner. Staff repeated or re worded what they said to people to help them understand.
We gathered evidence of people's experiences of the service by reviewing surveys which had been completed by relatives and visitors. A recent survey sent to relatives included the comment 'This is (my relative's) home and we are totally happy and confident in the way he is looked after.'
During our visit we were able to speak with the relative of one person living at the home. They said that they were very pleased with the care provided and commented on the happy relaxed atmosphere.
People we spoke with were generally pleased with the care and support at Compton House. However we found that people were not always able to take part in activities outside the home. We were also concerned that some parts of the building were not suitable for the needs of the people living there.
