There should be enough members of staff to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs (outcome 13)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by sufficient numbers of appropriate staff.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 1 November 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with carers and / or family members. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people’s needs.

Reasons for our judgement

We talked with some of the people who lived in the home. They told us that when they asked for assistance from staff they always received it promptly. They told us that they felt confident the care they received from each member of staff would be professional and friendly. We talked with some visiting relatives. They told us they visited the home both during the week and at weekends. They told us staff were always available to answer their questions. We looked at the staffing rotas and they supported this.

We talked with people in groups and individually. They told us they were able to regularly take part in the activities that they needed to or enjoyed.

We saw staff regularly checking the whereabouts and wellbeing of the people who were in their rooms.
