During an inspection looking at part of the service

St Mary Magdalene residential home was in the process of closing at the time of this inspection. Only a small number of residents were still in the home, and they had just been given the date that they were to leave. It was not felt appropriate to ask their views about the home in these circumstances, in case it caused them unnecessary distress.

During an inspection in response to concerns

All the people who we spoke with on this inspection were positive about the staff and about the care they were receiving. No one had any complaints, but we were told that people would feel at ease about raising any concerns they might have with the staff. They felt that they would be listened to.

Comments received included, 'I'm very happy here. Staff treat me with respect and I treat them with respect. You can do anything you like here, you can't beat it! Everything is done for you, you just can't complain!'

Another person told us they were 'very happy', and also told us of the mutual respect between people living in the home and the staff. This person said, 'The staff are so nice. I have no worries whatsoever'.

A third person told us 'We're well looked after, and we get too much food!' This person also told us that 'there's plenty to do', and said that her religion was respected, and that a priest visited her weekly.
