All Inspections

15 January 2014

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with one of the three people who were using the service at that time. They told us that they were happy with the care and support they received. They said, 'I have no problems here at all, they (the staff) are always there to listen and help me." They told us that the staff always explained when they were helping them and made sure they were happy with the care and support offered. They also told us that the staff helped them maintain a healthy diet and respected and supported their independence.

Records we looked at during our inspection showed that people's needs were assessed and care plans detailed how those needs were met safely. People were helped to take medication that they were prescribed with and the staff that supported people had received suitable training to meet their needs.

The service maintained accurate records about the people they supported, their staff and the premises which demonstrated that procedures were in place and being followed to ensure the safety of people who used the service.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection, we spoke with all four people who used the service. They told us that they were happy with the care and support received.

People were offered choice in their day to day living. One person told us, "We get to choose what we want to eat." Another person we spoke with said, "I do get to choose what time I get up in the morning."

We looked at people's care plans. These guided staff in supporting the day to day needs of people who used the service and contained risk assessments that minimised the risks of day to day living.

Staff were well trained and supported by the provider, and a process to ensure that the views of people who lived or worked in the service was in place.

During a routine inspection

We spoke wit three people who use the service when we visited the home and one commented in detail about their experience of living at Georgina House.

A second person said they thought the staff were 'very helpful and regularly went out with her'.

One person who has lived at the service for quite a long time told us 'I couldn't do very much when I first came to live here, but I go out regularly and use my car when I go further a field'.

One person had left to go out on one of their regular visits using the local taxi services.

A third person told us they were 'well looked after by the staff, and couldn't cope on their own'.

Each of the people we spoke to said how they make the most of going out within the local area, one especially enjoyed a regular walk to the seafront to watch the holidaymakers.

Everyone commented about how they enjoyed the food and that they were asked for their ideas to be included on the menu. They confirmed they preferred living in a small care home and how they all met up over meal times. They were very satisfied with the support and care they received from the staff team, regularly mentioning the care and support the manager offers.

One person said 'Georgina House is a home from home and can't be beaten'.
