People should be given the medicines they need when they need them, and in a safe way (outcome 9)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Will have their medicines at the times they need them, and in a safe way.
  • Wherever possible will have information about the medicine being prescribed made available to them or others acting on their behalf.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we hold about this provider, carried out a visit on 26/11/2010, 05/01/2011 and checked the provider's records.

Our judgement

The provider declared compliance with this essential standard of quality and safety; all staff who have responsibility for the administration of medication have completed appropriate training and a pharmacist visits the home each month to undertake a medication audit.

User experience

There are no surveys available as yet and we did not visit the service as part of this review.

Other evidence

The provider and manager completed a Provider Compliance Assessment (PCA) for Outcome 9. This declared compliance for all sections appropriate to the home. They told us in the PCA that staff who have responsibility for the administration of medication at the home have now received appropriate training and that a pharmacist visits the home on a monthly basis to undertake an audit.
