People should be cared for in a clean environment and protected from the risk of infection (outcome 8)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Providers of services comply with the requirements of regulation 12, with regard to the Code of Practice for health and adult social care on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance.

How this check was done

We carried out a visit on 8 September 2014 and reviewed information given to us by the provider.

Our judgement

People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment.

Reasons for our judgement

At the previous inspection on 22 October 2013 we were concerned that there were no procedures in place to ensure that cleaning of the premises carried out on a regular basis. Although the premises were clean and uncluttered, there was no evidence to show the frequency of the cleaning and which areas were cleaned.

On this inspection we found the premises were clean and well maintained. We were provided with the practice infection control policy which stated which areas of the practice were to be cleaned and whether they were to be cleaned on a weekly or daily basis. We also saw evidence of a cleaning risk assessment completed in October 2013, following our previous inspection visit, which identified cleaning frequency and intensity. A daily cleaning schedule was present which was signed and dated by staff. The schedule showed that the consultation rooms were cleaned twice daily and the remainder of the practice cleaned at the end of the day.
