During an inspection looking at part of the service

This Responsive Review was carried out to ensure that the care home had improved the quality of its service since our last visit in October 2010. We spoke with seven people when we visited the home and they all said that they were happy with the care and support they were receiving.

We checked that people that live in the home were being asked if they consented to their care. We saw evidence that they were, and that when people did not have the ability to consent to their plan of care, the staff ensured that the decisions made on behalf of the person were being properly discussed and documented.

We checked that the problems we found on our last visit with the management of the care for people that live in the home had been dealt with. We found that the care planning system had been re developed and was now fully assessing and planning to meet the needs of people that had high levels of need. We also saw that peoples care was being recorded and monitored appropriately. People that use this care home are receiving good quality care and support.

We also specifically looked at the food and drink being given to people. The people we spoke to said they liked the food that they received. We also saw evidence that when people needed support to eat and drink adequately they were getting good support from the staff.

We checked the medication administration system and how it was being used. The care home had an adequate medication administration system which was keeping peoples' medicines safe and properly administered.

We also checked that the numbers of staff that were being provided by the care home at different times of the day were enough to meet the needs of the people living in the home when we visited. We were told that they were, and we were satisfied that the number of staff being provided was adequate to meet the needs of the people that lived in the care home.

During an inspection in response to concerns

Those people that were able to express an opinion about their service were happy with the care and support they received from the staff and management of the home. There were a small number of people with greater levels of need living at the home and they lacked the ability to tell us about their experience of the service. However we were able to gather information from other sources to inform us of their experience of the service.
