During a routine inspection

People told us that staff were very good and they enjoyed living at the home and the care was good. People said that they enjoyed having activities such as the bridge club, scrabble, quizzes and shopping trips. People told us that they felt staff responded in a timely manner to call bells and that they didn't often have to wait more than a few minutes for assistance, and the staff were always apologetic. A relative told us that their family member had settled in very well and although they were apprehensive at the beginning, they were now very happy. Another relative told us that there was always something going on for people to get involved in and they all enjoyed afternoon tea. One person told us 'the home was always clean and tidy and the staff are wonderful, I love it here'.

People's needs were assessed and care was planned and regularly reviewed, and the care plans did reflected people's needs and the care provided. Medications were managed safely and most care plans were clear and legible. Records were stored securely. The provider had systems in place to ensure that staff were recruited safely and the appropriate checks were completed prior to staff starting work at the home.

During a routine inspection

Queen Mary House had twenty-eight permanent residents at the time of our inspection. People told us that they've been well looked after and their privacy was respected. They also said that the meals were nice and the staff 'cannot do enough for you'. People said that they were comfortable and felt safe in the home.

People told that there were many activities provided in the home such as exercise classes, quizzes, beauty therapy and massage.

Staff told us that they enjoyed working in the home and some of them worked there for more than ten years. We received comments that the staff was listened to, worked as a team and got on well with each other.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care plans were created. The care plans and the related risk assessment were reviewed regularly. People were visited by health professionals regularly to address any problems and they were referred to the other professionals or service when it was needed.

We found that people completed questionnaire forms in every three months regarding the meals and the care they received. People's feedback was taken into consideration and they were kept informed about the improvements of the service.
