This guidance explains the recent changes to the regulations that relate to providing Treatment of disease, disorder or injury at events, which mean you may need to register with CQC.
You need to read this guidance if you provide or intend to provide any health care services at an event. We describe who may need to register and in what circumstances. We also set out the timeline for registering with CQC, which has been set by the government.
There are also examples of queries we have received about registering for the regulated activity of Treatment of disease, disorder or injury at events, to help you determine whether this applies to you.
The guidance is based on the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. CQC is bound to exercise its functions within the limits established by this legislative framework at all times.
We are committed to working with other regulators to align expectations and reduce the impact of regulation wherever possible. However, our legislative framework is different from those of other regulatory bodies and is governed by specific statutory requirements. The activities that need to be registered with CQC are defined in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, but there may be some circumstances where CQC’s regulatory expectations or approach cannot fully align with those of other organisations, as each has a different remit and must operate within the legal framework and duties that apply to it.
It is important to note that CQC has not introduced these legislative changes. Our role is to implement the legislation and provide guidance to organisations that may now fall within scope of CQC regulation.
