University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust was placed into special measures in June 2014.

Listening into Action (LiA) involves front line staff proposing projects that will make a difference to patient care. Examples include:

  • Nurses led an intensive care unit to tackle the pain caused by nose tubes and pressure sores. This has almost eliminated the incidence of pressure sores and has led to considerable cost savings.
  • Specific education and training to spot signs of acute kidney infection. An associate specialist doctor followed up an NHS England alert. She set up a LiA project and a training programme that is saving lives today

The trust was rated as good in February 2017.
