CQC carried out an unannounced inspection of Balliol Lodge Nursing home on the 5 and 6 November 2015.

The inspection took place to check whether improvements had been made to address issues identified at a previous inspection, but also following the receipt of further information of concern indicating a risk to people living at the home.

Debbie Westhead, CQC Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care in the North, said:

"A CQC inspection on 5 and 6 November 2015 identified continued concerns regarding the quality of care at Balliol Lodge Nursing Home and a failure by the provider to take any action to implement improvements required as a result of our previous inspection in July 2015.

"Visiting inspectors found a number of very serious concerns and significant safety risks to people living at the home.

"Our priority is always to ensure the safety and welfare of people receiving services and in light of the issues identified on our inspection we are liaising closely with Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council and local commissioners who will be ensuring that all residents are moved to new homes where they are not at risk, and where their needs can be fully met.

"On 13 November, CQC and commissioners met with the families of people living at the home to provide further information and support as to next steps."
