Dr Paul Lelliott, Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals (lead for mental health) has welcomed the publication of the implementation plan for the independent Mental Health Taskforce's Five year forward view for mental health.

Speaking on the publication of the plan, Dr Lelliot said:

“The implementation plan for the Five Year Strategy for Mental Health sends out a clear message to commissioners and providers about what they need to do to develop their services and workforce to achieve the best possible outcome for the people they care for.

"We have now inspected every provider using our new comprehensive approach. This has given us an unprecedented body of knowledge about the quality and safety of mental health services in England. Going forward, we will ensure that our inspections not only check that services are addressing the issues that we have identified but also that they are developing in line with the five-year strategy.

“The Taskforce plan marks a significant opportunity to transform how people with mental health problems experience and access the services they need. We look forward to continuing to play a full part in its delivery.”

We have now inspected every provider using our new comprehensive approach. This has given us an unprecedented body of knowledge about the quality and safety of mental health services in England.
