Stephen took up the position of non-executive director of the Care Quality Commission in January 2021.
Stephen has been Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire since 2011.
Before joining the University, he worked in a range of Civil Service roles, including as Director General for Universities and Skills in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
He has served as a non-executive director on a variety of boards.

UOG is my full-time employer. The University has a large School of Health and Social Care, which trains students for a wide range of roles in nursing, allied health professions, and social work. Over time, CQC will therefore, in the normal course of its business, be inspecting health and care settings in which UOG graduates work.
