Prof Louis Appleby CBE
Louis is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Manchester, where he leads a group of more than 30 researchers in the Centre for Mental Health and Safety.
He was National Clinical Director for Health and Justice between 2010 and 2014, and National Director for Mental Health between 2000 and 2010.
Prof Appleby developed the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England, re-launched in 2012. It focuses on support for families and prevention of suicide among at-risk groups.
