Brief description

Bexley Crossroads Care UK Ltd is a registered charity and a registered company limited by guarantee. Although completely autonomous it is associated with Crossroads National. The purpose of the organisation is to provide support to carers of disabled adults and children or who have special/additional needs, in the London Borough of Bexley. The support provided includes personal, practical, social and light domiciliary duties to enable carers to have short breaks from their caring responsibilities and to have time to address their own needs.

The scheme has no age barriers and staff provide the support for the 'cared for' person based on assessment. The ethos of the agency is to `Care for Carers'. Care is not provided to clients living independently.

All clients receiving care and support have full time family carers. Bexley Crossroads was founded in 1990 with a joint grant from Bexley Council and Bexley Health Authority. The agency office is based in Erith in the London Borough of Bexley and is open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm with support workers having an out of hours telephone number should they need help or advice. The organisation is able to provide carers with short breaks in the day, evening, weekends and on bank holidays.

Currently a pilot service was provided for overnight support to older people in the borough and work being done to enable the agency to support carers caring for service users with dementia.
