A suite of documents have been published in relation to the Jimmy Savile investigation.

Sixteen reports are published today; including the four outstanding investigations, as well as the investigation into Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and 12 new investigations since last summer.

Kate Lampard has published her report which looks at the lessons learnt from the NHS investigations. There are 14 recommendations for the NHS that includes the Care Quality Commission, and the Government.

Commenting on Kate Lampard's Lessons Learnt report, Professor Sir Mike Richards, Chief Inspector of Hospitals, said:

"As this report is published, my first thoughts are with the people who suffered abuse.

"I welcome the report and its recommendations. It is a sensible and pragmatic response and a reminder that we need constant vigilance to ensure people are protected from abuse in hospitals.

"We already look at safeguarding in each of the core services we always inspect. We will now strengthen our approach to ensure that appropriate measures are being taken at trust level to ensure patients and staff are protected.

"We will work closely with Monitor and the Trust Development Authority on this."
