Oxfordshire care home rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

A supported living service in Oxfordshire that demonstrates its commitment to providing individual, person focused care has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in June.

Inspectors rated Brandon Trust Supported Living Oxfordshire Outstanding for being caring and responsive to people’s needs and Good for being safe, effective and well-led. Overall the service was rated as Outstanding.

Brandon Trust Supported Living provides support to people who live in their own homes and were supporting 59 people at the time of the inspection.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the South, said;

“Brandon Trust Supported Living Oxfordshire ensure that their ethos of providing person focused, individualised care is upheld by all staff who are fully committed to the values of the service and demonstrate this by treating people with compassion, dignity and respect."

“To receive an Outstanding rating overall is a commendable achievement and all the staff at the service should be very proud of the care they are providing”.

Some of the findings from the inspection included:

  • The service was highly person centred and therefore people’s quality of life was maximised to ensure they lived the lives they wanted. Inspectors found many examples of people that had been enabled to take on new challenges irrespective of learning and/or physical disabilities. Staff spoke with passion, excitement and enjoyment when describing the lives people led and did all they could to ensure that all requests were acted upon.
  • People’s communication needs were considered and catered for. The service had an Intensive Interaction lead. Intensive Interaction is a practical approach to interacting with people with learning disabilities who find it difficult to communicate or be social.
  • The service recognised the need to ensure people were enabled to have relationships of their choice and social opportunities were provided for people to meet others. Staff were trained to ensure they respected equality and diversity.
