During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this inspection visit to check on the improvements required that we identified when we last inspected the service in November 2013.

We visited the service in July 2014. We did not speak with any patients during our visit.

There were arrangements in place to capture the views and suggestions of patients. There was a comments and suggestions box which was visible and easily accessible in the patient's waiting area. There were posters displayed inviting patients to make comments and suggestions, and to join a patients' participation group to meet with staff at the practice and discuss their experiences and any areas for improvement. At the time of our visit due to a low response and expressions of interest this group was yet to be set up.

We saw that patients could make comments and suggestions via the practice website. Where comments had been received on NHS Choices website, these had been responded to and where patients had expressed concerns or dissatisfaction, they were invited to discuss these concerns with the practice manager or any of the doctors.

We found that improvements had been made to the arrangements for protecting people against the risks of health acquired infections. The arrangements for cleaning were checked to ensure that they were effective. We saw that there were plans to replace carpets with more appropriate flooring material in all doctors consulting rooms.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who were using the service at the time of our inspection. They were pleased with the practice and staff, whom they said were helpful. They said they did not have any difficulty in getting an appointment and that the doctors always carried out a thorough consultation. One person, a female patient, said they liked it that a female doctor was available, which gave them an option if they preferred to discuss a health matter with a female GP.

Both people said they were involved in decisions about their care, given clear information about the treatment options available to them and gave consent accordingly.

We found that people were respected and well cared for by staff and the practice was very friendly but patient feedback was not routinely obtained. We found that improvements were required in infection control, but staff were well supported and the quality of the service was being monitored well.
