South Park Surgery is located at Waters Green Medical Centre, Sunderland Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 6JL. The Waters Green Medical Centre is home to an additional five GP practices and all the practices work closely together.

The surgery has good transport links and there is a pharmacy located nearby.

The provider is registered with CQC to deliver the Regulated Activities; diagnostic and screening procedures, maternity and midwifery services, family planning, surgical procedures and treatment of disease, disorder or injury.

South Park Surgery is situated within the NHS Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and provides services to 12,591 patients under the terms of a personal medical services (PMS) contract. This is a contract between general practices and NHS England for delivering services to the local community.

The provider is a partnership and registered with the CQC in December 2012. The practice was run by a clearly defined senior management team comprising the GP partners each with responsibility for leading the operational and clinical teams.In addition to the GP partners the clinical teams included five salaried GPs and two GP registrars; four practice nurses and a pharmacist technician. There were also well-established reception, administration and secretarial teams. The practice was part of the wider network of GP practices situated in the same building.

There is a higher than national average number of patients over 65 year of age in common with the characteristics of the Macclesfield area. Information published by Public Health England, rates the level of deprivation within the practice population group as eight, on a scale of one to ten. Level one represents the highest levels of deprivation and level ten the lowest. Male life expectancy is 80 years compared to the national average of 79 years. Female life expectancy is 84 years compared to the national average of 83 years.

We carried out an inspection of South Park Surgery due to the length of time since the last inspection. Following our review of the information available to us, including information provided by the practice, we focused our inspection on the following key questions:

We based our judgement of the quality of care at this service on a combination of:

• what we found when we inspected

• information from our ongoing monitoring of data about services and

• information from the provider, patients, the public and other organisations.

We have rated this practice as good overall and good for all population groups.

We found that:

  • Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.
  • The way the practice was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centre care.
