How this check was done

We reviewed information given to us by the provider.

Our judgement

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

Reasons for our judgement

We looked at records of staff meetings and found that these were carried out monthly and covered a range of topics. We saw that there was a focus on ensuring that checks were carried out appropriately and when required. An example of this was a record which reminded staff to test the autoclave daily and record the results. This meant that staff were involved in the running of the service and could contribute to any improvements required.

We saw that a member of staff had undertaken sedation training and all staff had completed information governance training. We saw a copy of a staff appraisal report which enabled detailed information to be recorded. This included agreed objectives for the year for the individual staff member to aim towards and identification of their training needs. Records showed that all staff had received an appraisal of their performance in January 2014. This meant that staff were supported to develop their skills and improve their learning to provide a safe and effective service for the patients.
