During a routine inspection

The staff at Peters House encouraged people to remain independent and in control of the care they received. One person told us "The staff prompt you to do things, they never tell you." People were enabled to make decisions about their care.

People told us a large part of their care was delivered in group work sessions and they "Enjoyed the responsibility this gave them". However care plans and risk assessments were not found in people's care notes.

In speaking with staff the levels of knowledge relating to safeguarding were variable. We saw no evidence that staff or volunteers who worked at the house had undertaken any safeguard training.

Staff liked working at the home and felt supported by the manager. One staff member said, "Its an open door policy" so they felt they could get support as they needed. However there was no evidence that supervision and appraisals of staff was carried out. We did not see any evidence of it in staff records.

Whilst the provider has had independent advice and support to set up a system of assessing and monitoring of quality assurance, we only saw evidence of satisfaction surveys being undertaken regularly.
