During an inspection looking at part of the service

On our previous inspection we found that the practice had no emergency drugs or equipment that were in date or in good working order. There was no system in place to check this. On this inspection we found that they now had emergency drugs and equipment in place which were in date and in good working order and they had implemented a system of checks on this.

During a routine inspection

There were leaflets available in the reception area which gave information about particular dental conditions as well as dental treatments and what they involved. We spoke with people using the service who told us that they had things "fully explained" to them, that risks of treatment were explained and that the dentist told people what she was doing as she carried out treatment. People we spoke with described staff as "friendly" and "knowledgeable".

People told us that their medical history had been checked. They described the service they received as "brilliant" and said that they were "very happy" with it.

However, the provider did not have emergency drugs or equipment that were in date or in good working order.

On the day of the inspection the surgery was clean and tidy. People we spoke with described the surgery as "very clean" and "spotless".

Staff undertook relevant Continuing Professional Development in order to maintain their professional registrations. They undertook refresher training in appropriate topics such as infection control and what to do in a medical emergency, as well as other courses specific to the treatments they provided.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage the risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.
