During a routine inspection

We spoke with 22 people receiving the service, plus five family members. People told us that they had been involved in identifying the support that they needed, that visit times generally suited them and that staff were usually punctual. Staff encouraged people to do as much as they could for themselves and helped to rebuild their confidence. One person told us that staff, 'Suggested the best way of doing things, checked I was safe and now I do it on my own'.

The effective recruitment and selection processes meant that people were provided with care and support from suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and support because accurate and appropriate records were maintained. Personal information was securely stored, ensuring that people's privacy was protected.

During a routine inspection

We had the opportunity to talk with four of the people who use the service. All of the people we spoke with were happy with the care they received. They told us that they were supported in the way they wanted to be, had their privacy and dignity maintained and that they were able to express their views and individuality. People were complimentary about the staff that supported them.

People we spoke with told us that the staff knew how they wanted to be supported and that they made sure they got what they needed. One person told us that they were well on the way to being able to care for themselves again and another person said, 'When they first came (the service) I didn't know them, they didn't know me, but now we have a laugh and a joke and get on fine." Another person told us 'I would recommend them (the service) they are good."

People told us that they were included when their care plans were written and were given a chance to read them before they were finalised. The manager told us that respect and dignity underpinned all the work that they did and was referred to in training.
