During a routine inspection

We visited Westwood Lodge and Westside unit and we spoke to eleven people who used the service. They told us that they liked living at the home. One person said, "the food is much better here." They told us if they did not like something, they could have another choice or a sandwich. Other people also told us that they had a variety of food to eat and liked the meals.

One person told us "the staff speaks to me nicely, and I went out with staff yesterday'. They told us that they had regular meetings and discussed activities, menus, and any problems that they had about their rooms or anything they were not happy with. They said that they were given information about the new providers who were going to run Westwood and Woodside Lodge. Another person told us that the grounds and the home they lived in were wheelchair user friendly.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with nine people about their views of the care provided.

The people we spoke with were largely satisfied with the home's care. Staff were mostly seen as friendly and caring. One person said; 'staff spend time with me if I need to talk to them.' Another person said: 'the care is much better here than where I live before. Staff will help you when you need it. '

One person said that 'lots' of staff spoke down to him when he spoke to them. Another person said that staff were mainly very friendly but one staff member talked down to him. The provider said that this issue would be monitored and action taken as necessary.
