During a routine inspection

We spoke to seven people and three relatives during our visit to Heatherfields. People told us they were satisfied with the care and support they received from staff. One person said, "I am very comfortable here and the staff have been great since I came. If I need anything I just ask and they do it. A relative told us, "X came in here recently, they settled in straight away and said it was like home from home. The staff are very attentive'

We found people's care and treatment was delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We concluded people were provided with adequate nutrition and hydration.

We saw that people were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitabe premises.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

We found the provider had effective systems in place to regularly assess and monitor the quality of the service that people receive.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people about their experiences of the care and support they had received. People said they received good support from the manager and staff. One person said they liked the care staff and were satisfied they knew what support they needed. Another person said, ' Staff are fine, they always ask if I want a male carer.' A relative told us, 'They (staff) take really good care of X. We have seen X's care plans and the care is really good. They (staff) phone straight away if there is anything.'

We saw relationships between staff and people were good and there was a relaxed atmosphere. People told us staff asked them for their consent before they provided their care.

Accommodation was comfortable and clean. There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

It was not clear that staff training and supervision were always provided to ensure staff were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

Management systems were in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service and others. There were effective complaint procedures in place and people were aware of how to make a complaint. People were satisfied staff listened to their views.
