All Inspections

8 October 2013

During a themed inspection looking at Children's Services

We spoke with three people that used the service. They all told us they enjoyed their time at The Stan Bell Centre and that they were involved in decisions about the things that they did. One person told us 'I like spending time here, I get to communicate with others'. Another person told us 'I'm having a great time, I get to do the things that I like to do'.

We spoke with two relatives of people that used the service who told us they were very happy with the service and that their relative's needs were being met.

We spoke with four staff members who all told us they felt well supported in their roles. They told us that they had regular training and supervision and an annual appraisal.

We found that people were supported to promote their independence through daily living tasks at the service and encouraged to undertake activities that they enjoyed. We saw that people had detailed support plans in place that provided staff with information about to how to carry out their care and support tasks to ensure that their needs were met.

We saw that the provider worked in co-operation with other professional involved in people's care and information about safeguarding was readily available and on display throughout the service.

18 October and 1 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We visited Stan Bell on 18 October 2012 to carry out our inspection but were unable to complete this. This was because people using the service were at college and not available for us to speak with. Following half term we returned for a second visit, in the early evening of 1 November, to enable us to meet with some of the people using the service and with the staff who supported them.

People we spoke with were satisfied with the care and support they received at Stan Bell. They felt staff treated them well.

Thorough assessments were completed before people began using the service which ensured that their individual needs had been identified and plans put in place to meet these needs. Staff from Stan Bell and the RNIB college worked together to share information and help ensure people received consistent care and support.
