All Inspections

23 October 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our unannounced inspection 36 people lived at Lilliput House. We talked with five of them about their experiences at the home. We observed the support they received from staff in communal areas of the home, particularly in the dining area at lunch time. We also spoke with someone's visitor, a visiting health professional, four staff involved with peoples' care, another member of staff, the manager and the provider.

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. People spoke highly of the care they received. For example, one individual told us, 'I can please myself', in terms of the activities available and their daily routines.

People were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration. People expressed mixed opinions about the taste and texture of the food.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

The provider had an effective system to assess and manage the quality of the service and risks to people's health, safety and welfare.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

At the time of this unannounced inspection, thirty six people resided at Lilliput House.

During the inspection we used various methods to help us understand people's experiences. In addition to speaking with four people using services we reviewed records and talked with the proprietor, manager and three care staff. We also spoke with a visiting health care professional.

People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. Their views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was delivered. They were complimentary about the care provided.

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs. We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. People told us that the staff were helpful and that they felt safe with them.

People who use the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises. The home was clean and neatly decorated. There were regular maintenance checks.

People were cared for by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. A robust recruitment process helped ensure this.

People who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on. The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.
