Random and thematic inspections
In addition to key inspections we may carry out random and thematic inspections.
Random inspections
These shorter inspections take place if there is a specific issue in your service that we need to follow up. They happen in addition to the key inspection. We might be following up information about a concern, complaint or safeguarding issue.
Sometimes we visit to see what progress you're making on an issue identified at an earlier inspection. We may also visit if you've had a change in manager or have made changes to your service.
Sometimes we may visit a good or excellent service as part of our random checks. Random inspections will usually be unannounced.
Frequency
These inspections are called random because they may happen at any time. We want to reassure people who use services and the public that we are monitoring the care people receive.
Thematic inspections
These will focus on a theme. For example, we might look at how medication is managed, or have a theme on nutrition. Our findings will go towards a national report but you will also receive an individual report for your service.
Frequency
We intend to continue to inspect a sample of care services against specific themes.
