Quality rating review service

Find out how to have your quality rating reviewed by an independent, national team at CQC.

We set up our Quality Rating Review Service (QRRS) to let providers bring any concerns about their quality rating to our attention.

How do I get my quality rating reviewed?

If you are dissatisfied with the rating your service has been given, you have the usual 28 days to read the draft inspection report and contact your inspector through your regional contact team about it. Our inspectors will use this period to discuss your concerns and consider whether the rating is reasonable and robust.

If you are still dissatisfied, you will need to inform your local office that you will be seeking a review of your quality rating. If you want to seek a review of your quality rating you must wait until the 28 day draft period has finished.

You need to then send your request for review (see guidance and request form below) within seven days to the QRRS.

How does the quality ratings review service work?

  1. The QRRS will ensure that all requests for review meet clear criteria outlined in the guidance below.
  2. If your request meets these criteria, we will undertake a full review of your rating.
  3. The QRRS will then give its recommendations to the relevant regional director who will consider any need for a change in the rating.

Update

The QRRS is being withdrawn due to the introduction of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010 and the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009. Therefore, we will only consider requests for review of quality ratings received before 30 September 2010.

All requests should be submitted electronically to reviews@cqc.org.uk to avoid any delays in requests being received.

Requesting a review of your quality rating

Please read the guidance below before requesting a review of your quality rating. You will also need to fill in the accompanying quality rating review form:

Please send all requests to reviews@cqc.org.uk

Things to remember:

  • Use the 28 day draft inspection report period to raise any concerns you may have with your quality rating with your inspector to begin with.
  • Please send your requests for reviews after the 28 draft inspection report period and within the next seven days after that.
