Use of ionising radiation
Ionising radiation is used widely in medicine and is an indispensable tool in healthcare. It is used in imaging as an aid to diagnosis or as a population screening tool, and in the treatment of disease.
Since November 2006 we have been responsible for enforcing the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 (IR(ME)R) in England, as a result of amendments made to the regulations in 2006.
