How well are trusts following the code of practice on HCAIs?
In November 2008, the Healthcare Commission published a report that described its findings from 51 inspections of acute NHS trusts (about 30% of the acute sector) to assess their performance regarding cleanliness and infection control.
Based on the findings, the Healthcare Commission praised NHS acute trusts for showing increasing commitment to reducing HCAIs. However, it added that the NHS must maintain the pressure, because the inspection revealed gaps in many trusts' systems.
