About the directory of care services
Find out what information is available from our directory of care homes and other care services.
What's in the directory?
When you search for a care home or care service you will find:
- Details of the service it offers and for how many people
- Our reports about the care home or care service
- A quality rating for the service making it easier to compare it with others.
The reports say what the service does well and list any improvements they need to make. They can help you make an informed choice about which service is the right one for you.
The services available in the directory are:
- Care homes
- Domiciliary care (home care) agencies
- Nurses agencies
- Adult placement schemes

Reports produced before 1 April 2009
Inspection reports published before 1 April 2009 were produced by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and are still valid under the Care Quality Commission. These reports (and some produced after 1 April 2009) will have CSCI's logo on but are still to be used when looking for or choosing a care service.
Children's services
Children's social care services are inspected by Ofsted.
For information about children's services go to the Ofsted website (opens in new window)
